HTML Power Toys and Movie Maker

Today, among other things, I will post a teachers power point as an html slide show on her website. Many teachers use this format for their slide shows because it loads fast for the viewer and has a clean interface, and takes only a few minutes to create and post. It seems to take up less space on our web servers also. More on my Things We are Excited About page.

Another thing that will be going on today, is the 5th graders will be finishing their movie maker projects.  They made “Novel Trailers” in Movie Maker, rendered them as .wmv movies and will be showing them to classmates. Another group of 5th graders studied Texas authors. They each chose an author, read their works, did some research to learn about the author, and wrote to the author. Many of the students and teachers were surprised that most of the authors responded to the students letters, some with quite lengthy answers. The students each created a “movie trailer” for their novel in Movie Maker. For open house they had a Texas Author’s Film Festival.  The mobile laptops were out on desks and parents and family had the best time watching the movies their children had created.

I’ll write more detail and history on this project, complete with some photos and hopefully some of the videos on my Things We are Excited About Page

  1. Margie,

I think one of the greatest things about your blog is that we can see at the secondary level what is going on at the elementaries in terms of technology.

I think it’ll be really helpful for our teachers to specifically know the kinds of projects students are doing prior to arriving here!

  2. Thanks, Carolyn,
Reba, at HCMS had the same thoughts…maybe posting of projects will “continue the continuity”!
