Technology Helps Us Help Others

You may have heard of Care Calendars. I had not until a dear teacher friend and coworker and her family suffered a major setback. Her husband was involved in a serious automobile accident in June, we are thankful he is still alive.  She and her husband have 3 children and were in need of help.

Any time friends, family, coworkers, etc. are in need of help, we all want to do something but are not sure who to contact, what to do, or how to help. Often there is a close family member who coordinates the phone calls, food, transportation, etc. through emails or phone trees.

Through the use of a  Care Calendar, a free, interactive, online calendar that allows everybody to help out by clicking the need, link, or date on the calendar, all help can be coordinated. The family can post updates, and post what they and need when they need it. Friends who want to help just open the calendar, enter the family’s id number and password, and can see what the needs are, click a link to fill a need, and send messages of encouragement to the family.

The link, user id and password for the family’s Care Calendar can be emailed.

The family can check the calendar and know what to expect. I am putting a thumbnail of a screen shot of a working calendar below.

The site is free, but works on donations.

The thumbnail and linked screen shot aren’t very clear, but going to the Care Calendar link will show it all clearly.

  1. Elizabeth…

I always enjoy coming to this site because you offer great tips and advice for people like me who can always use a few good pointers. I will be getting my friends to pop around fairly soon….

  2. Thanks, Elizabeth for leaving such a nice comment.
It pretty much takes a village for us all to stay afloat in the constantly changing world of instructional technology integration. I am learning every day from the folks who take the time to share their tech worlds in their blogs. I need to update my blog roll in case there are any that I read that may be new or helpful to others.
