New Technologies, Equipment, Applications, Practices
This is an ongoing (hopefully) list of new things we have acquired at my 2 schools and started using and practicing over the last 2 years. Other schools in the district have already installed some of this technology.
Chronicling this over time will give us an idea of where we’ve been, so we can better plan where we are going…(That’s what the song says anyway). I think it will be interesting to keep up with this over the next few years as our technology continues to evolve.
2007-2008
August
Wirless access in the intermediate wings of both schools
All 98 machines were removed over the summer
They were replaced with GX745 flat screens and mobile labs
The district has subscriptions to ePals for global learning activities
All Elementary schools will have Adobe Premier and Photoshop elements in one lab
Inspiration was upgraded to 8.0, Kidspriation was upgraded to 2.1b, Kid Pix upgraded to 4
Family Access to student information by account and password is now available to all familys in the district. They can log on and view grades, attendance, scheduling, absences, and cafeteria account information
2006-2007
Samsung Doc cameras and mounted Epson projectors connected to a teaching computer in all classrooms at both schools. This resulted in an explosion of tech integration: lots of interactive websites, United Streaming, and Airliner use.
Started purchasing Airliner Wireless Slates for Classrooms
Replaced GX110s with GX 745s at both Valley View and Barton Creek
Using Office 2003, looking at Office 2007.
Put Audacity and several other programs on our images to facilitate podcasting.
Saw an increase in the amount of Movie Maker projects in both schools.
The district has committed to full time Technology Integration Specialists at the 4 small elementary schools. Now all schools will have at least 1 full time CTC (tech integration specialist) on campus next year.
Over the summer we will begin our wireless access point installation, switch out our GX150s for a combination of desktops (GX745s) and laptops (mobile labs) Latitude D620s.
2005-2006
Implemented Skyward Administrative System-with it’s online Gradebook system-kind of a rough start in 2005-2006, but things have smoothed out and improved in 2006-2007.
Implemented mClass using TPRI for reading mastery documentation and DIBELS for at risk and early intervention reading assessment and remediation.
Valley View labs switched over to GX 620s
